Now that 2010 is here it is time to consider whether or not you have made the necessary preparations for yourself and your loved ones in the event of a sudden personal or family crisis.
Many individuals with disabilities and their families end up spending countless thousands of dollars more than necessary simply be failing to plan for such an event.
Bradley Law offers an Initial Consultation that includes a full systems analysis for not only the individual with a disability, but the entire family as well. By looking at the big picture we are able to assist our clients to plan more effective strategies to meet their legal and other needs.
Our focus on the use of Special Needs Trusts where appropriate has saved numerous families hundreds of thousands of dollars that would have otherwise been needlessly wasted. Grandparents should also look at Special Needs Trusts as options for their children and grandchildren and as a way to grandparents to shelter assets and qualify for Medicaid for their own purposes, such as services in the home or long term care in a facility such as assisted living or a nursing home. Come find out if a Special Needs Trust can help you or your family member with a disability.
A bit about Special Needs Trusts:
Special Needs Trusts help qualified individuals, or their family and friends, shelter assets for the benefit of the qualified individual while allowing them to retain their Medicaid and/or SSI payments. The funds in the Special Needs Trust, while subject to some rules, are available to use for the many items and services not covered by the beneficiary’s governmental benefits. Special Needs Trust can also help individuals who might have difficultly managing their own funds. Many qualified individuals are unaware of this valuable tool that can dramatically change their lives.
Qualified individuals are generally 1) recipients or applicants for Medicaid or, 2) recipients or applicants for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This includes those individuals seeking to obtain waiver funded services through Medicaid. Others may also qualify if they have a disability and are under age 65.
Any person can inquire about a Special Needs Trust for themselves or their family member or friend. Doctors, Case Managers, Supports Coordinators, Social Workers and Provider Agency staff members are welcome to contact us to see how a Special Needs Trust could help someone they serve.
